This is the sight that appears to travelers as they leave Hong Kong and cross the old Luohu border in Shenzhen. This is the oldest part of the city. It is not dangerous here, but the area has a bad reputation (prostitution, second-rate bars, gambling, pickpockets, fraudsters, massage parlors). In the foreground, the BestWestern hotel, which hosted Deputy Prime Minister Kołodko (as the plaque commemorating the VIPs says). The prime minister probably didn't know what this area was like, or didn't want to get too far away from "civilized" Hong Kong.
