It has been 2 years since the Beijing Olympics. It was supposed to be so beautiful - economic development, China's opening to the whole world, a new and better image of the Middle Kingdom, development of tourism, great nationwide enthusiasm. Not much went wrong! The enthusiasm was there during and before the Olympics, and it concerned mainly the Chinese themselves. Moreover, the Olympics were controversial, again human rights, Tibet, doping, gold medals for little-known Chinese athletes, propaganda and censorship, the issue of the birth dates of Chinese athletes... many problems, controversies, accusations. It is also worth mentioning that the issuance of visas for foreigners staying in China has been made more difficult, many factories in the Beijing area have been closed or stopped working, offices of foreign companies have been closed, and greater police and military pressure has been introduced against ordinary citizens. This Olympics was supposed to change so much, but I have the impression that apart from propaganda within China, apart from the bragging rights of the authorities and the stupid enthusiasm of the Chinese, it did nothing for either China or the world! Now it's similar with Expo, but more on that in other photos that my wife will soon provide.
