During a short yacht trip, I had the opportunity to see the coast near the port of Yantian Shenzhen, Mirs Bay, and the South China Sea. This is quite a 'sensitive' area, it was once famous for pirates sailing between Guangzhou and Hong Kong, there are many small islands here. Just a few decades ago, it was the most guarded border in the world between British Hong Kong and communist China. Of course, the border is still there, but more liberal. Now trade and smuggling issues are more important than political considerations.
