The nouveau riche Chinese love to hang out at the American (I assume) Starbucks. They probably took it from American films and series like 'Friends'. They pay 20-30 RMB for coffee and feel that it is a great way to spend their free time, a completely different life that did not exist in the middle of nowhere a few years ago.
