Life and Travel in China

The American lifestyle has probably already conquered China for good. Well, all (Chinese) restaurants are empty outside the noon and evening hours, because it's not lunch or dinner time, they eat very punctually. The exception is all KFC and McDonald fast food outlets. Imagine that the Chinese sit there from early morning until late at night, crowds on weekends. They treat this food as some unique miracle from the West, amazing flavors, wonderful snacks and unusual main courses, and sitting there is a time of relaxation and joy of life. Entire families go there, even children who cannot speak yet. I can already see them being overweight in a few years!!!

...and going back to yesterday's thread, something like American Idol is currently playing on Chinese TV. Why is the whole world so Americanized?

Major inspections begin today in Chinese internet cafes and record stores. It is mainly about checking the legality of software and media, as well as controlling access to prohibited websites (mainly pornography). If a store has more than 100 illegal CDs, it will be closed for some time and will of course be charged some kind of fine. And this is the answer to the question... why there are no Playstation games on sale anymore. I also wonder what the owners of a nearby store will do, where 50% of the goods are erotic and porn CDs?

I saw a particularly pathetic argument today. Well, while I was at a large railway station, waiting with thousands of people for a train (no one waited longer than 30-60 minutes), I saw a man arguing with a woman sitting next to him about a place in the waiting room. The exchange of insults became so intense that about six people got involved, and two women even started pushing each other. If it weren't for the intervention of the station staff, there would probably be a regular battle for a seat in the waiting room. It's very pathetic how people are at each other's throats over a stupid seat that they will leave in a few dozen minutes and go their separate ways.

Today, the supermarket ran out of chives, and since they are usually added to fish soup or steamed fish, sometimes also to other meats, most Chinese quickly bought green chives. One boy, seeing that we were looking and asking him where he got the chives, took pity on us. It turned out that he didn't have any more bunches, so he gave us his chives, and he and his friend bought another vegetable. Beautiful attitude! Give your chives to some white man!
