Life and Travel in China

The Chinese are increasingly neglecting their 'eating' habits. This usually applies to young, single Chinese people in big cities. Lunches and dinners are very important elements of life in China, this is due to their culture and history. It looks different in family homes, where at noon a big dinner is prepared consisting of at least 3-4 dishes (green vegetables, fish, meat, tofu, light soups). It is not a holiday - this is what a meal looks like in China. In large metropolises, the young generation is increasingly neglecting these customs. They don't have time or they can't cook anything healthy. They order meals from small restaurants or even stalls, the cost is about PLN 5-10. They eat dinner at KFC or McDonald's more and more often. All this, of course, affects the deterioration of health. We see more and more young, obese Chinese people. Some nouveau riche families cannot cook anything and rely on the housekeeper's skills or eat in restaurants. On weekends, hospitals are crowded with young people who are too busy to see a doctor during the week. Poor diet, stress, fatigue, constant overtime, lack of exercise - all this contributes to the deterioration of the health of young people in China. They deviate from the traditional lifestyle (healthy Chinese food, more exercise - kungfu, taiji, badminton) and are increasingly heading towards the West (fast food, coffee, cars, sitting in front of the TV). Maybe it's not that bad yet, but younger and younger generations are simply becoming more and more lazy and lethargic.

Coming back to the topic of food - while visiting a factory in Jiangsu some time ago, I saw an interesting scene. The workers were sitting next to a large grease-stained machine for processing metal molds and cooking soup. In this region of China, lunch is usually eaten very early, even at 11 o'clock. The workers had a portable gas stove, they sat in a circle and threw various delicacies into the hot brew. Really interesting scene! This situation reminds me again how important a meal is in the Middle Kingdom.

It's sad to see the whole world doing business with China, and Poles being able to sell almost nothing in the Middle Kingdom. In a large supermarket that offers various imported products, I found chocolate-covered cookies from Poland. It was one and only product from our country! The funniest thing is that the Polish product was imported via Taiwan. Because, of course, Poles cannot reach an agreement directly with the Chinese. After all, China is such a small market, only a billion people, why should we sell anything there?! Makes no sense, waste of time! And our government deals with Tibet, the Dalai Lama, human rights, boycotting the Olympics and the death penalty. And all other countries in the world are simply doing business here and are not interested in such 'humanitarian' topics. Supermarket shelves are packed with American juices, German cucumbers, French chocolates, Swiss cheeses, Spanish wines... astronomical prices! Of course, not everyone buys such products, but the Chinese are getting richer and can afford various delicacies from outside China. There are also more and more foreigners who buy such products every day. But of course we don't see this market!

Having spent so many years in the Middle Kingdom, I already know that there is a group of Chinese women here who are simply looking for a foreigner as a partner. It's not even about the visa or the money, because it happens anyway, but it's probably some kind of fashion. However, my friend outshines all other Chinese women who hunt white people. Don't get me wrong - she doesn't sleep with them! For now, she is loyal to a certain guy from Central America who lives in the USA. She's been waiting for him for almost 3 years because he doesn't have permanent residence in the United States and he certainly can't just fly to China. I don't even remember if they ever met face to face, I know that they often contact each other via the Internet. This Chinese woman has now got a job in Europe and is traveling between China and Europe. She recently returned to China and rented a new apartment. She was looking for a roommate - she decided to rent an apartment to a girl from Portugal, and she brought her boyfriend from Mexico. The guy is very strange and this Chinese woman is afraid to even stay there alone with him. Despite everything, she has foreigners next to her - just like she dreamed of. He always talks about his friends, they are all foreigners! If I have Chinese friends, they are only those who have foreign boyfriends or husbands. Is this a disease, a perversion, racism towards one's own nation? She knows guests from Italy, France, Canada, the USA, Americans of Polish descent, and Americans of Czech origin. At every meeting and party, he must surround himself with foreigners. I will also add that she does not speak perfect English and is not very interested in Western culture (she doesn't know the name of spaghetti, she doesn't know who the pope is). In front of me, she made fun of praying in the Vatican (where she had recently been), and called the Pope "that old guy who dresses him in white clothes and a hat." Of course, I am tolerant, I understand that our faith is foreign in China, but why is it so pushed towards foreigners? So that she could have some specific guy from America or Europe, here - with her. And she has an online relationship... I don't understand it at all anymore. And I admit that I'm tired of her stories about this and that foreigner who lives in China and did this and that. In my opinion it is some kind of disease. She doesn't have any Chinese friends! She's Chinese after all! It's as if I lived in Poland (as 100% Polish) and only hung out with Asians! He rented an apartment with Asians! He went to lunch and dinner with Asians! Of course, I don't see anything wrong with it, but there has to be some moderation and why should I cut myself off from my own nation and culture? When it comes to foreigners, she simply has no moderation - she has to know everyone, talk about everyone. Maybe he has a world map in his apartment and puts pins for every foreigner he meets. She's definitely covered Europe and the Americas, Africa and Asia are probably not interesting to her, ha ha!
